What's Screen Capture?

Screen Capture is a method of getting the image on the screen in front of you into another programme or saving it as a file.

The basic method of screen capture is to press the Alt and the Print Screen key at the same time. This makes Windows save the window you are currently using to the clipboard. Then open your e-mail programme select 'paste' and the card will be pasted into your e-mail ready to send.

Compression

It's a good idea to compress the image before sending it. Compression make the file smaller so it doesn't take so long to send and doesn't take up so much space in the recipient's mailbox.

If you don't know and don't want to know what JPEG compression is then paste the card into Netscape Communicator because that will do it for you automatically.

How Can I Get Rid Of Unwanted Junk Around The Image?

Alt + Print Screen captures whatever is displayed on the window which may include scroll bars and the buttons on your Internet browser. To get rid of them tell your browser to make its buttons go away and change the size of the window so that it only displays the image you want to capture.

How Can I Get A Perfect Image?

A better method is to use a screen capture program some of which are available free from download sites such as the ones I have included in 'Favourites'. If you want a very simple, free program then try ScreenHunter which is available from NoNags.

ScreenHunter captures exactly the image you want without the clutter of scroll bars, browser buttons etc.
